McKernan Edmonton Homes For Sale | Real Estate Listings
The neighbourhood of McKernan, located in southwest Edmonton, is bounded on the north by University Avenue, 113th Street in the west, 109th Street in the east, and 72nd Avenue in the south. It was originally a neighbourhood, adjacent to Belgravia, in the city of Strathcona, but became a part of Edmonton when the two cities were amalgamated in 1912. Though it was annexed already when the cities amalgamated, development did not begin until the 1940s after McKernan Lake was drained.
In earlier years, the McKernan Lake Streetcar operated in this area, connecting Calgary Trail to 116th Street along 76th Avenue. Known as the Toonerville Trolley, it was replaced by the more modern streetcar in 1948. In the subsequent years, until 1953, most of the residential development in McKernan was completed.Keep Reading about the McKernan Community
