The neighbourhood of Terrace Heights was originally land held by a Hudson Bay Company employee named McLeod. This mill operator also pioneered stage coach travel in 1883, covering the route from Edmonton to Calgary each week. A plan to subdivide the prior McLeod holding was registered when Edmonton and Strathcona were amalgamated in 1912. Since Terrace Heights is located a little more than 3 kilometers away from the centre of the city of Edmonton. development in Terrace heights proceeded slowly at first. Eventually, in the 1950s, the Terrace Heights neighbourhood was officially annexed by Edmonton in two stages, and development proceeded in earnest.
Terrace Heights, since it was developed in two stages, functions as a pair of low-density residential communities, separated by an area of higher density residences and commercial activity along 101st Avenue. Terrace Heights residents enjoy access to major shopping areas and plenty of employment opportunities, including the Capilano Mall, located nearby. The neighbourhood’s northernmost residential area is also located in proximity to Capilano Ravine, which actually runs through the neighbourhood’s northeast section.
