Like many other neighbourhoods in this part of the city, Holyrood has many design features one would expect from a community developed during the 1950s.

The most common type of home for sale in Holyrood is a single-family detached house, with multi-family housing by way of condominiums and apartments are located along 85th Street and 95th Avenue. The interior streets are lined with trees and are arranged in a grid pattern which has been modified to include visually pleasing landscaped street islands. Most streets in Holyrood carry predominantly local traffic, with the exceptions of 95th Avenue and 79th Street, which are considered collector roads. About Holyrood Edmonton Real Estate For Sale

Holyrood is located near the St. Joseph Seminary, located at the corner of 98th Avenue and 84th Street. At the large 60,000 square foot Seminary, men train to become Roman Catholic priests, and the adjacent Newman Theological College is a 31,000 square foot private Catholic college. Sharing the property with the seminary and college are the offices of the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton, overseeing 61 parishes across central Alberta. For the Roman Catholic home buyer looking for Edmonton real estate, Holyrood is a quiet neighbourhood where one can feel very close to the faith and the Church.

In addition to the Seminary, College, and Archdiocese, there is a school and community hall maintained by the Community League located in Holyrood’s centre. In addition, a small commercial area is located in the neighbourhood’s southeast section, while the larger Bonnie Doon Mall, a shopping centre for the entire region, is located just southwest. Holyrood residents also enjoy easy access to Edmonton Northlands and other amenities across the city.

Via the routes of 98th and 90th Avenues, Holyrood residents enjoy convenient access to Edmonton’s downtown, making for easy commutes, or easy travel for those wishing to enjoy some of downtown’s atmosphere and amenities. In addition, walking trails and bike paths are accessed in Holyrood’s neighbouring communities, Strathhearn and Forest Heights. In addition, the ongoing expansion of Edmonton’s LRT is expected to add a Holyrood station along the Valley Line, further connecting the neighbourhood to the rest of the city. Bus services operated by the Edmonton Transit System are available for residents, with bus routes running along 85th S

Holyrood’s name comes from Scotland, and is an Anglicization of ‘haly ruid,’ meaning ‘holy cross.’ Since its inception in the early 20th century, it has had a number of names, first being called Mount Pleasant, then East Edmonton Gardens, followed by Balmoral. In 1953, it was renamed to Holyrood, which it remains today.
